DoodleBohmBa Instructor Certification Program

The DoodleBohmBa (DBB) program is a series of books, workbooks, videos and music created by Richard Bohm, owner and founder of Tulsa Stained Glass. The body of work developed over the last 15 years has been to help non-art educators such as caregivers, therapist, activity directors, and other group leaders to use art and the creative process to benefit clients. The goal of the DoodleBohmBa Instructor Certification program is to train group leaders to use the DBB program to expand their client’s opportunities and abilities to express feelings and ideas through art.

Class participants will receive a DoodleBohmBa Instructor Certification for successfully completing the introductory workshop, learning various spontaneous painting and stained glass design techniques and making a stained glass project. The projects help instructors understand stained glass construction so they can help their students apply stained glass design elements to their drawings. CEU credits are available.

DoodleBohmBa Activities for Clients

Led by a Certified Instructor, individuals gather as a group to re-discover the fun of creating art, learn about stained glass and then draw a picture of something important in their life. DBB lessons and workbooks help students improve their art.

An added benefit…once each client has drawn a picture of what is important to them and made the picture resemble a stained glass window, the pictures are uploaded to the Art Smart Challenge website for popular voting and judging. Six age categories compete for cash and prizes. The deadline for each annual competition is December 31. Everyone is encouraged to submit their pictures monthly; multiple entries from an artist are welcome.

Client Benefits of DoodleBohmBa

The primary painting techniques covered in this program start with spontaneous art, including finger painting, contour drawing, etc. This type of artwork allows free expression of emotions and ideas without judgments, making it ideal for participants with physical or mental challenges, as well as participants who have no art training.  These spontaneous techniques also push people beyond self-imposed limits that are based on past judgments and repeated perceptions of failure.  For a client, expressing themselves without judgment, seeing artwork transition into a stained glass design, sharing artwork online and seeing positive reactions (votes and comments) can free creativity and boost self esteem.  Seeing improvement in their ability to express feelings and ideas more clearly, as well as more objective artistic improvement based on understanding art principles, can encourage communication skills and build confidence to try other new activities.
